Print from iPhone to an Epson printer

Written for iOS 26 and iOS 27 Updated By The Printer team

Quick answer

Most Epson printers with Wi-Fi support AirPrint, so you can print from your iPhone without an app. Put the printer on the same Wi-Fi, tap Share → Print and pick it. Epson Smart Panel handles setup and ink levels on recent models. Printer prints to any AirPrint Epson with no account.

What you’ll need

  • An Epson printer with Wi-Fi that supports AirPrint
  • Your iPhone and the printer on the same Wi-Fi network
  • The printer’s control panel, or Epson Smart Panel, if the printer isn’t on Wi-Fi yet

Epson printers, especially the refillable EcoTank range, are some of the most popular home printers, and most Wi-Fi models print from an iPhone without extra software. Where it gets confusing is the apps: Epson has two, and which one you need depends on your model. For everyday printing you may not need either.

Three ways to print to an Epson printer

All three options use the same Wi-Fi connection. The difference is what each one adds on top.

AirPrint is built into iOS. Anything you can share, you can print.

Epson Smart Panel is Epson’s current app. Epson says it combines several of its older apps into one, with printing, scanning, copying, ink levels, ordering supplies and troubleshooting help. It supports selected Epson Wi-Fi printers, and Epson suggests Epson iPrint for printers that aren’t on Smart Panel’s list. Not sure which applies to you? See Smart Panel vs iPrint.

Printer is our app. It prints to Epson printers over AirPrint with no account, no ads and no tracking. It adds a camera document scanner, signing and markup, page selection, and printing for notes, web pages and contact cards.

When an Epson app is the better choice

Printer doesn’t set up a new printer’s Wi-Fi, show ink levels, clean print heads or scan from the printer’s glass. For those, use the printer’s control panel or Epson Smart Panel.

Check that your Epson printer supports AirPrint

Most recent Epson printers with Wi-Fi support AirPrint, but not all of them. Some budget ink-tank models don’t — including many L-series models and some entry-level EcoTank models — so check your exact model before anything else:

  • Our AirPrint checker takes about 30 seconds.
  • Apple’s official AirPrint search lists printers the manufacturer has certified. If a printer isn’t listed, Apple suggests checking with the manufacturer.
  • The iPhone test. Open any photo, tap Share → Print, then tap Printer. If your Epson appears, it supports AirPrint.

If your Epson doesn’t support AirPrint

Neither AirPrint nor Printer can print to it. Use the Epson app that supports your model, or print from a computer instead.

Connect your Epson printer to Wi-Fi

Skip this if the printer is already on your Wi-Fi.

  1. Use the printer’s control panel

On Epson printers with a screen, open the Wi-Fi or Network settings and choose Wi-Fi Setup (sometimes called the Wi-Fi Setup Wizard). Pick your network and enter its password.

  2. No screen? Use WPS or Smart Panel

Many Epson printers without a screen can join with WPS: press the WPS button on your router, then start WPS on the printer. Your printer’s manual lists the exact buttons. Otherwise, run setup once in Epson Smart Panel. Epson says setup needs your iPhone on the same Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth and Location allowed.

  3. Put your iPhone on the same network

Open Settings → Wi-Fi and join the network the printer is on, not a guest network. If your router shows separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names, try the same one as the printer.

  1. Open what you want to print

A photo, a PDF in Files, a web page in Safari or an email in Mail.

  2. Tap Share → Print

In some apps, Print is under the More (•••) button.

  3. Choose your Epson

Tap Printer, choose your Epson, set copies and options, and tap Print.

  1. Choose Epson and your model

On first launch, pick Epson and then your model, such as an EcoTank ET-2850. Printer finds it on your Wi-Fi and confirms when it’s ready.

  2. Pick what to print

Scan a document, or choose photos, files, a note, a web page or a contact card.

  3. Check the pages and print

Select the pages you need, sign or crop if necessary, and tap Print.

Printer is free to download. Printer Pro, a weekly or annual subscription with a 3-day free trial, unlocks unlimited prints and scans, Pro tools like QR codes, and printing without a watermark.

Common Epson problems

  • The iPhone doesn’t see the printer. It’s usually asleep or on another network. See iPhone can’t find printer.
  • “No AirPrint Printers Found.” Check AirPrint support first, then the network. See fix “No AirPrint Printers Found”.
  • The job never starts. Clear it in Print Center and on the printer. See print job stuck.
  • Faded or streaky prints. Run a nozzle check from the printer’s maintenance menu or Smart Panel, then print our test page to compare.
  • No Wi-Fi router nearby. Many Epson printers support Wi-Fi Direct. See print without Wi-Fi.

Most recent Wi-Fi models in these series support AirPrint, but always check your exact model.

Series Type Notes
EcoTank (ET-) Refillable ink tank, often all-in-one Low cost per page; widely sold in North America and Europe
EcoTank (L-) Refillable ink tank Sold mainly outside North America and Europe; some budget models don’t support AirPrint
Expression Home inkjet, including photo models Everyday documents and photos
WorkForce Home-office inkjet all-in-one Often include an automatic document feeder and two-sided printing

You’ll find the model name on the front of the printer and on a label on the back. Run it through our AirPrint checker if you’re unsure.

Questions people ask

Do I need Epson Smart Panel to print from my iPhone?

No, not if your printer supports AirPrint. Open what you want to print, tap Share → Print and choose the Epson. Smart Panel is useful for setup, scanning from the printer, ink levels and maintenance, but you don’t need it to print.

Should I use Epson Smart Panel or Epson iPrint?

Epson says Smart Panel works with selected Epson Wi-Fi printers, mainly recent ones, and suggests iPrint for printers that aren’t on Smart Panel’s list. We explain the difference on our Smart Panel vs iPrint page.

Why can’t my iPhone find my Epson EcoTank?

First check that your exact model supports AirPrint. Some budget ink-tank models don’t. If it does, the printer is usually asleep or on a different network. Follow our iPhone can’t find printer checklist.

Can I check Epson ink levels in Printer?

No. Printer focuses on printing. Check ink on the printer’s own screen, by looking at the tanks on an EcoTank, or in Epson Smart Panel.

Can I print to an Epson printer without Wi-Fi?

Many Epson printers support Wi-Fi Direct, which lets your iPhone connect straight to the printer with no router. See print from iPhone without Wi-Fi.
