Print from iPhone to a Canon printer
Written for iOS 26 and iOS 27 Updated By The Printer team
Quick answer
Most Canon printers with Wi-Fi support AirPrint, so your iPhone can print to them without an app. Join the printer to the same Wi-Fi, tap Share → Print and choose the Canon. The Canon PRINT app adds setup, scanning and ink levels. Printer prints to any AirPrint Canon with no account.
What you’ll need
- A Canon printer with Wi-Fi that supports AirPrint
- Your iPhone and the printer on the same Wi-Fi network
- The printer’s control panel, or the Canon PRINT app, if the printer isn’t on Wi-Fi yet
Canon’s PIXMA inkjets, MAXIFY office printers and imageCLASS lasers are common in homes and small offices, and most Wi-Fi models print from an iPhone with nothing to install. Canon’s own app is useful for setup and scanning, but for everyday printing you can leave it out.
Three ways to print to a Canon printer
All three use your Wi-Fi. The difference is what each one adds.
| AirPrint (built into iOS) | Canon PRINT app | Printer app | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account needed | No | Varies; the app may ask you to register the printer | No |
| Cost | Free | Free | Free to download; Printer Pro subscription unlocks unlimited prints, Pro tools and watermark-free printing |
| Works with | Canon printers that support AirPrint | Supported Canon printers | Any AirPrint printer, any brand |
| Best for | Quick prints from Photos, Safari, Files and Mail | Setup, ink levels, scanning from the printer | Scanning with your camera, signing, picking pages, notes, web pages and contacts |
AirPrint is built into iOS, so any app with a Share button can print.
Canon PRINT is Canon’s app for its printers. It used to be called Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY. It handles first-time setup, scanning from the printer and checking ink levels.
Printer is our app. It prints to Canon printers over AirPrint with no account, no ads and no tracking. It adds a camera document scanner, signing and markup, page selection, and printing for notes, web pages and contact cards.
When Canon PRINT is the better choice
Printer doesn’t set up a new printer on Wi-Fi, show ink levels, update firmware or scan from the printer’s glass. Use the printer’s control panel or Canon PRINT for those.
Check that your Canon printer supports AirPrint
Most recent Canon printers with Wi-Fi support AirPrint, but check your exact model:
- Our AirPrint checker takes about 30 seconds.
- Apple’s official AirPrint search lists printers the manufacturer has certified. If yours isn’t listed, Apple suggests checking with the manufacturer.
- The iPhone test. Open any photo, tap Share → Print, then tap Printer. If your Canon appears, it supports AirPrint.
Connect your Canon printer to Wi-Fi
Skip this if the printer is already on your network.
-
Use the printer’s control panel
On Canon printers with a screen, open the LAN settings or Wi-Fi menu and start the wireless setup. Choose your network and enter its password. Menu names vary between PIXMA, MAXIFY and imageCLASS models.
-
No screen? Use WPS or Canon PRINT
Many Canon printers can join with WPS: press the WPS button on your router, then start WPS on the printer as its manual describes. Or run first-time setup in the Canon PRINT app. You don’t need the app afterwards to print.
-
Put your iPhone on the same network
Open Settings → Wi-Fi and join the network the printer uses, not a guest network. If your router has separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names, try the same one as the printer.
Print with AirPrint (no app)
-
Open what you want to print
A photo, a PDF in Files, a web page in Safari or an email in Mail.
-
Tap Share → Print
In some apps, Print sits under the More (•••) button.
-
Choose your Canon
Tap Printer, pick your Canon, set copies and options, then tap Print.
Every option is explained in how to print from iPhone.
Print with Printer
-
Choose Canon and your model
On first launch, pick Canon and then your model. Printer finds it on your Wi-Fi and confirms when it’s ready.
-
Pick what to print
Scan a document, or choose photos, files, a note, a web page or a contact card.
-
Check the pages and print
Select the pages you need, sign or crop if required, and tap Print.
Printer is free to download. Printer Pro, a weekly or annual subscription with a 3-day free trial, unlocks unlimited prints and scans, Pro tools like QR codes, and printing without a watermark.
After an iOS update
Some Canon owners have reported AirPrint problems after major iOS updates. One example is a Canon Community thread about an imageCLASS MF227dw after iOS 18. If your Canon disappeared from the printer list after updating your iPhone, these are the usual first fixes:
- Restart the printer, wait for it to reconnect to Wi-Fi, then try again.
- Restart your router and iPhone, so every device rejoins the network cleanly.
- Update the printer’s firmware from its control panel or Canon’s support site.
- Check the network with our iPhone can’t find printer checklist.
Common Canon problems
- “No AirPrint Printers Found.” See fix “No AirPrint Printers Found”.
- The printer is missing from the list or shows offline. See iPhone can’t find printer.
- The job never finishes. See print job stuck.
- Colors look wrong or lines are missing. Run the nozzle check from the printer’s maintenance menu, then print our test page.
- No Wi-Fi router available. See print from iPhone without Wi-Fi.
Popular Canon printer series
Most recent Wi-Fi models in these series support AirPrint, but always check your exact model.
| Series | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PIXMA | Home inkjet, often all-in-one | Everyday documents and photos |
| PIXMA G (MegaTank) | Refillable ink tank | Low cost per page |
| MAXIFY | Small-office inkjet all-in-one | Built for higher volumes of documents |
| imageCLASS / i-SENSYS | Black-and-white or color laser | imageCLASS in North America, i-SENSYS in Europe |
| SELPHY | Compact photo printer | Prints postcard-size photos; check your model’s iPhone options |
The model name is printed on the front or top of the printer. Not sure about AirPrint? Run it through our AirPrint checker.

Load photo paper, open the photo, tap Share → Print, pick the printer and choose the paper size in the options. In Printer, you can also set copies, paper size, color and quality before you print.
